Dr. Candyce Osefort-Russell is a licensed psychotherapist who specializes in grief and trauma. Dr. Osefort-Russell became interested in this field after experiencing her own trauma.
When she was in her 20’s, shortly after she decided to become a stay at home mom to her 11-month-old son, her husband contracted a virus that attacked his heart and killed him within six weeks.
It was after the help of a therapist who allowed her to take her time with the grieving process that she realized she wanted to help others process their grief in a healthy way.
In this episode, Candyce explains how to grieve and function at the same time, whether or not you should take time to sit with your grief or if you should try to stick to your usual routine and just keep moving forward, her advice for what to say to someone who is grieving, and she dispels the myth of the linear stages of grief.
In today’s health tip segment, I follow-up with my thoughts on my discussion with Candyce and why it’s so important to understand the grieving process is different for every single person and why you must cut yourself some slack by giving yourself time to find your new normal.
In today’s real talk segment, I provide advice to a listener who reached out me stating that she needs a fresh start and wants help deciding where to move. I don’t really feel comfortable providing a specific location suggestions, but I do think it’s important to talk about the subject of providing yourself with a fresh start.
I also discuss another listener’s request for advice about working on your marriage alone. During my response, I refer to this blog post I actually wrote about this very topic.
